Brixton Energy’s paid, AQA accredited internship for motivated young Brixton residents started this April with 2 classroom sessions defining what energy is and diving into how energy has been used and why a sustainable transition to renewable energy is so important. 20 young people from all sides of the greater Brixton area came together to learn about the context of community energy and what Repowering is doing in London.

The internship also aims to develop the next generation of green leaders by empowering them with skills in renewable technology, solar panel making, energy efficiency, and community engagement. Marketing, social media, and local business models are also on the agenda, boost future prospects with some business acumen and hopefully sparking future innovators into action.

The internship was featured in the Brixton Blog in March as an opportunity for young people to gain experience in the growing field of renewable energy as a way to get involved in the local community. Since 2012, interns such as Victoria Omubuwajo, who won Solar Power Portal Intern of the Year, have pursued green energy in different forms and even started their own ventures. We are looking forward to seeing the growth of our spring interns!
